Inspiring Walk-in Closets

A cramped closet stuffed with a thicket of shirts, skirts and trousers makes dressing a struggle and leaves clothes crumpled and damaged. Which is why so many of us would love a walk-in closet. The last word in style in the clothes storage world, these supersize closets allow you to find your clothes easily, store them neatly and keep everything from shoes, bags, hats and ties ordered and on hand. The very best walk-ins even double as dressing rooms, making putting on clothes in the mornings an effortless pleasure rather than a stressful struggle. Here are some of our picks from the best, most beautiful designs.

Go for white and wood. Rather than the dark, moody feel that many windowless walk-ins have, this lovely wardrobe is a vision in white. Dark wood creates the storage structure and mirrored sides help to maximize the light, while crisp white shelves and drawers make the whole space feel open and the clothes easy to locate.

Brighten up. Open and airy, with a window to let the daylight in and a fresh white scheme, this walk-in closet feels more like a room than a closet. It’s a great place to hang out in, trying on outfits before an evening out or calmly dressing for the day ahead.

Closet lighting has also evolved in recent years, with LED strip lighting augmenting or replacing recessed cans or track lighting. LEDs use less electricity, produce less heat and can be surface mounted and plugged in, so they don’t require ceiling access.
